- Medical Directors and Pharmacy Directors from health plans, HMOs, integrated health systems, employers, quality organizations, and other managed care organizations (MCOs)
- Managed care-affiliated care team members involved with patient evaluation, education, and follow-up for hemophilia patients including: physicians, pharmacists, nurses, case managers, and social workers
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Due to the advent of new and more costly treatment modalities, the management of pediatric and adult hemophilia patients has become more complex for physicians, nurses, case managers, payers, specialty pharmacies, home health providers, and family/caregivers. In the absence of a coordinated educational effort, the full benefits of care coordination and the comprehensive care model have not yet been achieved.
This educational initiative will provide managed care and specialty pharmacy professionals with the latest information, presented by multi-disciplinary expert faculty, on the management of pediatric and adult hemophilia patients in health plan, specialty pharmacy, and other managed care settings. Represented on the faculty panel are Hemophilia Clinical Experts, Managed Care Experts, and Specialty Pharmacy Experts.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES |
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Describe current and evolving strategies used by managed care organizations (MCOs) and specialty pharmacy providers to facilitate high quality care for members with hemophilia
- Cite the most recent clinical recommendations for the treatment of patients with hemophilia, including prophylactic factor replacement and the role of emerging agents
- Explain hemophilia-related complications associated with inhibitor development and its significant clinical and economic consequences
- Identify processes for MCOs and specialty pharmacy providers to improve communications with HTCs
- Apply methods to enable optimal cost management of factor replacement therapy to be realized by multiple hemophilia stakeholders including MCOs and specialty pharmacy providers
LEARNING GOAL/PURPOSE
This educational initiative is designed to provide managed care and specialty pharmacy professionals with the latest clinical data and practice strategies in the management of pediatric and adult hemophilia patients in health plan, specialty pharmacy, and other managed care settings.
