Critical Issues

– Although patient has access to medical care, his care has been irregular and inconsistent

– Patient and his family lack knowledge about:

• Hemophilia and its associated bleeding episodes
• Short- and long-term hemophilia management strategies
• Hemophilia treatment options
• Infusion plans for bleeding episodes (including self-infusion at home)

– Other needs include:

• Developing a management plan that incorporates routine dental and orthodontic work
• Documentation of Hepatitis A and B immunity
• Obtaining a Factor VIII activity on mother and sister to assess their bruising
• Assessing the patient and family for the presence/absence of a genetic mutation
