Case 3: Treatment of Patients with Inhibitors Using Immune Tolerance Induction

• The goal of immune tolerance induction (ITI) is to eradicate the inhibitor

• ITI exposes patients to FVIII over a period of weeks to years

• Success rates for ITI, using a variety of different treatment regimens in patients with severe hemophilia A, range from 45 – 100%

• ITI success is positively correlated with

– A low inhibitor titer at the start of ITI (<10 BU)

– A low peak inhibitor titer before the start of ITI (<100 BU)

– ITI initiation within 1 year of inhibitor detection
