Case Scenario Part 2:
Critical Issues
– Increased mobility increases the risk of injury
– Interactions with other children and a desire to “keep up” often lead to an increased risk of injury
– More time spent outside of immediate parental care or supervision
– Treatment considerations
- Inform the hemophilia treatment center (HTC) about the recent head trauma to determine if clinical evaluation is required
- Home-based management—parental administration of blood factor
- Dose adjustment as the child gains weight with age
- Management of acute bleeding episodes
- First responders to an injury may be childcare providers and not parents
- Education of childcare providers and preschool personnel
